I recently stayed at a budget hotel in Newtown and had a great experience. The location was perfect, with excellent public transport options nearby. There were plenty of restaurants in the area, and the convenience of a bus stop right outside the property made getting around the city a breeze. The hotel staff were also friendly and helpful, especially when it came to arranging airport transport for my early morning flight. Additionally, I was pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the amenities provided. it was a comfortable and practical choice for my overnight stay.
No complaints whatsoever. 😊

I enjoyed the location
The room furnishings, the lack of services.

It is really fitting the neighborhood, an old renovated house with nice atmosphere, narrow winding corridors and staircases, high and narrow windows, lots of local art,... The interior is clean and taken care of. The rooms are functionally furnished, nothing exquisite there. Beds were comfortable.
For the price we had, we could get a more polished standard elsewhere in Sydney, if somebody comes with such expectations, he might be disappointed. The windows are old and not isolating enough (sounds, wind). The notice in shower warning of steam shower triggering fire alarms was amusing at start of summer, maybe not so in winter.

Despite its budget accommodations, Newtown Budget Hotel exceeded my expectations. The location was fantastic, with shops, bars, and the train station all just a short walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring that our stay was comfortable. While the room was on the smaller side, it was clean and tidy. The only drawback was the hot water, which was hit and miss. However, given the price and convenience, I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay in Newtown. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Newtown Budget Hotel.

We stayed in Newtown to be close to local friends. We found the accommodation to be fairly close to 2 train stations and bus links to many places, including Coogee and Central. The room was small but adequate for our needs. Staying at the back of the property, it was away from road noise and we slept better than at other central hostels. All communal areas were tidy and clean. Fresh towels every day too! The staff, despite being very busy cleaning and doing Reception work, were always polite and helpful. The area is a bit like Camden, London. Lots of coffee shops, great places to eat and independant alternative, trendy, arty, clothes, furniture and accessories shops. Nice place to be if you want to get away from all the cliche tourist/backpacker hot spots.
The entrance into the reception is through a sidedoor via an intercom (security reasons), which did not appear to work that well, issued with keys though afterwards. Reception is not manned and the ladies cleaning the rooms had to run down from the 2nd floor. The commual WC's and shower were very small, dirty from other guests habits. The staff cleaned them daily which was welcomed and to a high standard. It would have been useful to be told more about the facilities on arrival by staff, no idea where the kitchen was. The free internet was a bit erratic. In general the decor is a bit tired and shabby especially the WC/showers, with missing tiles. Perhaps Management could invest with losing one bedroom per floor and enlarging the WC/shower and adding 1 extra toilet.

After climbing 35+ stairs our room had French doors that opened onto a little wraught iron balcony. This was veiled by wisteria giving it a romantic appeal.

Not much, price was ok.
Everything. Cleanliness above all - the room looked and felt filthy, it was way too small, the bathroom was ridiculously small - and unclean - even the door was rotting off. Get what u pay for I suppose.
